Movis Tracking System
The system comprises one or more control stations, a number of base stations, governed by the geographical size and topography of the operations area, and a user definable number of mobile units.
The Base stations form a cellular structure inside the operations area and each base station controls and collects information from every mobile unit within its cell. The information from the mobile units is transmitted via a digital link to the Base station, where information is further passed to the Control station as well as every other Base station. All Base stations and Control station(s) are connected together via a Telecom network.
The Control station(s) form the top level of control in the entire system where the movement of the mobile units are superimposed on geographical maps over the area of operations. for each mobile unit, position, speed, direction and user defined data are presented. In the basic system the Base stations are structured to cover and operational area of 150x150 km. In a small area, it may be sufficient to use only one Base station which also doubles as a Control station.
Control Station
The Control station(s) comprises a PC Workstation running on NT, an interface to the telecom network, a high resolution display, software for data collection and control, (MOVIS-control), software for presentation of maps and Mobile unit information. In the presentation software, a database facility is provided. During operation the control station acts as a master for the mobile units.
Base Station
The Base stations, all identical, comprise a MOVIS-V equipped with one to eight radio units, a DGPS reference receiver to provide differential corrections in the cell, and an interface to the Telecom network. Each Base station is the master in a cell and controls and collects information from every mobile unit in its cell. Besides being a cell master, a base station also acts as a controller of one or more repeaters, MOVIS-M, to enhance the radio coverage in the cell.
Mobile Units
The Mobile units can either be a MOVIS-V equipped with one or more radio units, a DGPS receiver and an optional inertial navigation unit for dead reckoning, or a MOVIS-M equipped with one radio and an optional DGPS receiver. MOVIS-M can be used for man packed applications. The MOVIS units are also equipped with two RS232 interfaces and can handle user definable data for transmission over the digital radio link.
